We take a tour to the 110km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, Khustain Nuruu where Mongolia’s wild horses (takhi) are preserved and protected. The takhi also registered as “Przewalski’s horse” in the world’s biology foundation, became extinct in the wild, and between 1992 and 2004, with assistance from international environmental agencies, the takhi were reintroduced into Mongolia at Khustain National Park. In addition to the takhi, in the region, you can see populations of maral (Asiatic red deer), steppe gazelle, marmot, and suslik.

DAY 1: Khustain National Park (130 km)

Early morning, we travel to the southwest from Ulaanbaatar and arrive at Khustain National Park. Accompanied by the preservationist’s explanation, we visit an “Information center”. After taking lunch, we drive to the National Park to see the wild horse (takhi) with a preservationist. Through the trip, we also head to the 7th century Turkic Khaganate historical site Ungut Monument on Ungut mountain slope to see the Turkic stone monuments. It is a spectacular place as it is a large complex of man stones. Except for the stone monuments and different stone figures, there are more than 550 balbal stones and archeologists revealed that the place was an offering site for a nobleman. Then we head back to Ulaanbaatar.
